What about the crown of jewels he adorned his head with and sang psalms in the spirit (2 Sam. 12:30, Ps. 20:4), or the gifts brought by the Philistines, which remained there eternally? (1 Sam. 6:11) Did not Nebuchadnezzar also carry away all the sacred vessels and store them in the temple of his idols? (4 Sam. 25) Moreover, the ark of the covenant was brought by the Philistines into the house of Dagon (1 Sam. 5:2). Who is capable of transforming that which is unclean into something holy and consecrated? If that was the reason they procured the field with this silver — to acknowledge Him as God — then it was fitting to cover the altar with it.
