The Evangelist argued that He could not be deemed to have been stripped of the compassion that allowed Him to accept a lineage that included flawed ancestors. Additionally, the Church should not feel embarrassed to comprise those who have sinned if the Lord had sinners in His family tree. Thus, Matthew commenced his account of the gracious act of redemption with a genealogy of Christ, ensuring that no one would presume that a flawed background could impede virtue. This way, the arrogant would not take pride in their high birth, nor would the excessively humble feel ashamed of their forebears' shortcomings, improving their heritage with the virtues they embody. Regarding Ahab, his connection is unmistakable due to his wife Jezebel."},{"author-name":"Nicephoros (Theotokis)","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c8958407451968d9c204fb_Nicephoros%20(Theotokis).png","category":"Christian Authors","century":18,"exegesis-text":"Hosea was a king who took the bold step of offering sacrifices in the temple, yet he was struck with leprosy as a consequence. He is known by two names, Hosea and Azariah. It is important to clarify that Hosea, also referred to as Azariah, was not a descendant of Joram, but was a member of his lineage. Hosea or Azariah was actually the son of Amassiah, who in turn was the son of Joash. This establishes that the Evangelist Matthew chose not to mention these three names: Ohoziah, Joash, and Amassiah (1 Chron. 3:10, 15; 1 Chron. 26:19; 1 Chron. 3:11-12; 4 Kings 15:1). His omission of these names could stem from their associations with disbelief and vice, as indicated by the Divine Scripture, or perhaps, due to their unfaithfulness and wickedness, their names were excluded from the Hebrew records. Additionally, the Evangelist may have intended to focus solely on the three generations from Abraham to Christ (4 Kings 8:27; 2 Chronicles 24:18; 2 Chronicles 25:14)."},{"author-name":"Michail (Lusin)","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c89550c567e172d15b3055_Michail%20(Lusin).png","category":"Christian Authors","century":19,"exegesis-text":"Hosea fathered Jehotham, as stated in 2 Kings 15:5, 32, 38.
