Additionally, the Church should not feel embarrassed to comprise those who have sinned if the Lord had sinners in His family tree. Thus, Matthew commenced his account of the gracious act of redemption with a genealogy of Christ, ensuring that no one would presume that a flawed background could impede virtue. This way, the arrogant would not take pride in their high birth, nor would the excessively humble feel ashamed of their forebears' shortcomings, improving their heritage with the virtues they embody.
