According to the New Synodal Russian translation, ‘I will open my mouth in parable and utter divinations from of old.’ In certain compilations of the Holy Scriptures, as diligent scholars may discover, in the place where we find translated the phrase that appears in the common edition, ‘So that it was fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet speaking,’ it is recorded as ‘through Isaiah the prophet speaking.’ However, because this passage does not appear in Isaiah, it seems to me that this attribution was later added by wise individuals. It appears more likely that the original wording was ‘Which is written by Asaph the prophet speaking,’ for the Seventy-seventh Psalm, from which this reference is drawn, is attributed to Asaph. The initial transcriber may not have recognized Asaph and, thinking it a mistake, replaced it with the more widely known name of Isaiah. Thus, it must be understood that in the psalms, which serve as hymns of praise, not only David but also other authors whose names are indicated should be regarded as prophets, including Asaph, Edith, Heman, the Israelite, Eoin, and the sons of Korah, among others mentioned in Scripture. The words of the Lord, ‘I will open My mouth in parables, and expound the hidden things of the foundation of the world,’ upon closer inspection, reveal that they portray the exodus of Israel from Egypt and recount all the signs found in the narrative of the Book of Exodus. Therefore, we must recognize that all that is described there should be seen as a parable: it is not merely to be understood as a transparent account in a literal sense, but as veiled mysteries.
