An evil one comes and takes away that which is planted in his heart; this person represents those who are on the path. The one sown on rocky terrain is the individual who hears the word and rejoices at once, but lacks a deep foundation within himself, making him vulnerable to the trials of the moment. – The wicked one steals the good seed. It is important to recognize that what is planted is in the heart, revealing varying conditions of the soul among believers. In times of tribulation or persecution for the sake of the word, he is quickly tempted. – Note the phrase: quickly tempted. This illustrates the distinction between someone who is forced to renounce Christ through significant suffering and another who, when faced with initial persecution, is swiftly tempted and succumbs."},{"author-name":"Theophylact of Bulgaria","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c8989296bafed9104677d7_Theophylact%20of%20Bulgaria.png","category":"Holy Fathers and Teachers","century":11,"exegesis-text":"The reason He mentioned suffering is that many people, when they face hardship from their parents or experience some misfortune, quickly start to speak ill. Although it grows quickly, the sun's heat scorches it, as it has no foundation. Similarly, the Word of God, when it reaches people's hearts without being deeply rooted, may be welcomed with joy, but it withers under trials, grief, and persecution, losing its nourishing fruit and becoming unproductive. This illustrates, dear Christian, that the Word of God, whether heard or read, must be deeply embedded in the heart, nourishing the soul continuously. As the psalmist expresses in his own testimony: \\"In my heart I have hidden Thy words, that I might not sin before Thee\\" (Psalm 118:11). He also declares, \\"Thy servant meditates on Thy statutes. Thy revelations are my instruction, and Thy statutes are my counsellors\\" (Psalm 118:23-24). Furthermore, he notes, \\"I have learned from Thy commandments, which I have greatly loved\\" (Psalm 118:47) and \\"I have meditated on Thy statutes\\" (Psalm 118:48). He proclaims, \\"How have I loved Thy law! All day long it is my instruction\\" (Psalm 118:97) and laments, \\"Tribulation and want have befallen me; Thy commandments are my comfort\\" (Psalm 118:143). Therefore, it is said of the righteous, \\"The law of his God is in his heart; his feet shall not stumble\\" (Psalm 36:31), and blessed is the man who \\"delights in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night!\\" He is compared to a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in due season, its leaves do not wither, and whatever he does prospers (Psalm 1:1-3)."},{"author-name":"Michail (Lusin)","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c89550c567e172d15b3055_Michail%20(Lusin).png","category":"Christian Authors","century":19,"exegesis-text":"When trials or persecution arise due to the Gospel, individuals may be \\"tempted\\" to abandon their faith and the message of Christ. Who is the sower? The Son of God, Jesus Christ. What does the seed symbolize? The word of God. What do the various places where the seed lands represent? They signify the hearts of humanity. What is indicated by the spot along the path? It represents individuals who are dispersed, listening to the word of God superficially, without true engagement of the heart. What do the birds signify? They symbolize Satan and the temptations he uses to stifle the word of God within us. What does the rocky ground represent? It represents individuals with fragile faith, who, under favorable conditions, joyfully receive the word of God but falter in times of trouble and despair, eventually turning away from listening to it and lamenting against God. And what does the thorny ground signify? It signifies those who are excessively preoccupied with worldly affairs; the anxieties of life and the allure of wealth suffocate the word of God in them. What does the good soil represent? It signifies genuine believers who attentively hear the word of God with reverence, prayer, and not only absorb it but also act upon it. What is the fruit? The good works that arise from embracing God’s word. What does the mention of a hundred, sixty, and thirtyfold in this parable convey? It indicates that among those who genuinely believe and regularly hear the word of God, some produce greater good works than others. This teaches us the importance of introspection to discern which category our hearts belong to, and to seek divine assistance so that the good seed may take deep root within us. Related scriptural passages include: “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 13:9) “Watch how you hear.” (Luke 8:18) “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.” (Luke 10:41-42) “But now being freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your fruit for holiness, and the end is eternal life.” (Romans 6:22) “By this, My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” (John 15:8) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)"}]}
