Therefore, the disciples, acting in accordance with this greater principle, did not violate the sanctity of the temple, which is a temporary dwelling of the Almighty, nor His enduring laws. The Lord reminded them of God's declaration through the prophet: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice,” asserting that compassion toward the man with the withered hand takes precedence over a passive observance of rest. He reiterated that the Sabbath was created for mankind, not mankind for the Sabbath. Every Sabbath, like any other day, should be dedicated to performing good rather than evil, and neglecting to do good deeds for the benefit of others also constitutes a failure. Ultimately, the Lord reaffirmed what He had already declared in Jerusalem: the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."}]}
