The term \\"Beel,\\" also known as Beel Bel or Baal, connects to \\"zebub,\\" which translates to fly. This title reflects the association of the lord of demons with this disdainful idol, named after its nature of uncleanness that taints the fragrant essence of anointing oil.\\n\\nAnd he said to him: Thus says the Lord: Because you sent ambassadors to question Beelzebub, the deity of Akkarona, as if there is no God in Israel to question about His word - from the bed on which you lay, you will not come down from it, but you will die."},{"author-name":"John Chrysostom","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c88ea76859f9f8e2ffd3ee_John%20Chrysostom.png","category":"Holy Fathers and Teachers","century":4,"exegesis-text":"To further emphasize His unique bond with His disciples, He does not refer to them as mere servants, but rather as members of His household. In another instance, He declares, “I do not therefore say, ‘I am not your slaves; you are My friends’” (John 15:15, 14). Moreover, He did not merely indicate that the Lord faced disdain at home, but specified the exact nature of the reproach, noting that He was labeled Beelzebub. Following this, He offers another source of comfort: you are denounced as tricksters and frauds. This conveys the notion that it should be enough consolation for you that I, your Lord and Master, endure the same slander as you. If, despite this, you still feel sorrow, remember that soon you will be liberated from scorn. What is it that causes you distress? Is it the labels of tricksters and deceivers? But be patient, for a little while longer, and everyone will recognize you as saviors and benefactors of the world. Time reveals all things concealed; it will unmask the calumny of your adversaries and highlight your righteousness. If you demonstrate your role as saviors and benefactors through your actions and embody every virtue, people will disregard falsehoods and focus on the authenticity of your deeds. Then, while slanderers and falsehoods are laid bare, you will shine brilliantly, surpassing the sun, for time will disclose and proclaim your true nature, becoming a voice that resonates louder than a trumpet, compelling all to witness your goodness. Therefore, do not let my words discourage you; rather, let them inspire you with the promise of future blessings, for it is impossible for your actions to remain hidden."},{"author-name":"Hilarius of Poitiers","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c88cb92f12b3278598f946_Hilarius%20of%20Poitiers.png","category":"Holy Fathers and Teachers","century":4,"exegesis-text":"Understanding the forthcoming events greatly aids in developing patience, particularly when the aspiration to persevere is encouraged by exemplary figures. Our Lord, the eternal light, guide of the faithful, and fountain of eternal life, has assured His followers in advance about their future tribulations, so that none should mistakenly view themselves as above the Master, nor a servant as greater than his Lord. Beelzebub was identified as the ruler of demons. While it is not specifically stated that the Jews referred to Christ as Beelzebub, it stands to reason that they may have used this term regarding Him. Alternatively, they might have labeled Him as a companion of Beelzebub, saying, \\"This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebub, the prince of demons\\" (Matthew 12:24), as we will observe later. Certainly, they spoke many other calumnies against Him, but He highlighted this particular accusation as the most egregious of all."},{"author-name":"Michail (Lusin)","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c89550c567e172d15b3055_Michail%20(Lusin).png","category":"Christian Authors","century":19,"exegesis-text":"The owner of the residence is the Lord Jesus. This dwelling symbolizes the kingdom of Christ (Matt. 20:1ff.), with Christ as its leader, the householder. Beelzebub: there are two variations of this term in the manuscripts—Beelzebub and Beelzebub. The former signifies the god of flies and was a Philistine idol, particularly revered in the city of Ekron (2 Kings 1:2, 3, 16). This unusual name arose because the coastal regions, including Philistia, were plagued by numerous insects, notably a specific type of fly known for swarming in clouds and delivering painful bites. To combat this nuisance, the Philistines devised a deity to serve as a protective patron. However, the clearer interpretation seems to favor Beelzebub as it appears in most ancient texts and is commonly accepted in many editions. The theory suggesting that Beelzebul is derived from Beelzebub lacks sufficient evidence and remains speculative. A more accurate derivation would connect it to Baal—meaning god or lord—and zevul—meaning dwelling, which would also denote master of the house. In contrast to Christ, the true master of the house, Beelzebub, the devil, also claims lordship over a dwelling, representing opposing kingdoms: one of goodness and holiness, the other of evil spirits and sinful souls. In the former, Christ reigns, while in the latter, Satan, the prince of demons, presides (Matt. 12:24; Luke 11:15; John 8:48). While the Gospels do not explicitly state that the Jews referred to Jesus Christ as Beelzebub, it is clear from the context that they indeed did. His household consists of the members of His kingdom."},{"author-name":"Gladkow B.I.","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c88bf0ceef8c96e09a6521_Gladkow%20B.I..png","category":"Christian Authors","century":19,"exegesis-text":"Do not be alarmed by the reality of hatred and persecution that may come your way, for you are My followers, and a disciple is not greater than the teacher, nor is a servant greater than their master.
