How remarkable is the insight of those who heeded His words! It is indeed puzzling to consider how the apostles, those timid individuals who had never ventured beyond the shores of their fishing lake, did not flee upon hearing such declarations. What could have prevented them from thinking, “Where could we escape? The courts stand against us, as do the kings and authorities, the synagogues of the Jews, and the nations of the Greeks, along with their rulers and subjects.” Christ had warned them not only of the tribulations that would befall them in Palestine, but also of the opposition that the entirety of creation would mount against them, declaring, “They will lead you before rulers and kings,” indicating His intention to send them forth to proclaim His message to the Gentiles as well. You have set the whole world against us, arming all who inhabit the earth—nations, rulers, and kings. Even more alarming is what follows: the reality that men will turn against one another, becoming brothers who slay brothers, children who betray parents, and fathers who turn against their own."},{"author-name":"Theophylact of Bulgaria","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c8989296bafed9104677d7_Theophylact%20of%20Bulgaria.png","category":"Holy Fathers and Teachers","century":11,"exegesis-text":"Christ’s purpose was not solely to send His disciples to the Jewish people but also to the Gentiles. Despite these challenges, they need not be anxious about how or what to speak, as the Holy Spirit would provide them with the words they need in that moment. The message of peace will be twisted by the sinful desires of humanity into a rallying cry for violence and animosity, forcing them to flee from their relentless persecutors from one city to another. This indicates that the Lord's guidance to the Apostles concerns not only their immediate preaching efforts in Judea—where they were instructed to avoid both Gentiles and Samaritans (Matt. 10:5)—but also extends to their future ministry among the Gentiles and the broader mission of their worldwide evangelism. The term rulers encompasses all kinds of leaders, not limited to Roman authorities and governors.\\n\\n‘To testify before them and the Gentiles’ implies that the Apostles, through their preaching and conduct, were to bear witness to both kings and the general populace about Christ the Messiah, His teachings, and the goodness of the Gospel. Should they reject this testimony and disregard the message, the Apostles were to provide a witness against them as a form of rebuke. These prophetic words were ultimately fulfilled in the lives of Christ's apostles. Some stood before the rulers of Rome, while others faced leaders from Parthia, Scythia, India, and beyond. The precise fulfillment of these prophecies underscores that the Lord had foreseen the future. At the time He issued these commands, there was little indication that these humble fishermen of the Sea of Galilee would, in due course, appear before the mighty leaders of the world."},{"author-name":"Gladkow B.I.","author-image":"https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/6864003fdf3714da6ff0b33a/68c88bf0ceef8c96e09a6521_Gladkow%20B.I..png","category":"Christian Authors","century":19,"exegesis-text":"When you are brought before authorities and leaders because of me, to bear witness to them and to the nations, do not be concerned about what to say or how to say it. However, when you are apprehended, do not worry about how or what you will say: for in that moment, God will provide you with the words to speak; it is not you who will speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. A brother will betray his brother to death, and a father will turn against his child; children will rebel against their parents and put them to death.
